Communciate With Charm

Ringmobile

It's the simple things that make us smile. Good lateral thinking. This is what we need to think about when designing communication services. Keeping it in the here and now.  Focus on the the stuff people actually see and engage with. After all, charm costs so very little.

As seen on a gallery door in Brighton.

Caughtshort

I saw this in Soho the other day. Made me smile. You might also notice the sweet logo - Sat Lav!

Wanted: Sugar Daddy

Sugar

I always read notice boards, you get such an interesting insight into the lives of those who live nearby. I've never seen a request for a sugar daddy though.
Written on a brown paper bag. Brilliant.

Inappropriate Signage

Lift

I love signage. I love inappropriate signage even more. This was in Waterstones...

That Internet, Yes That One, It's Open

Openinternet

I saw this in Wales at the weekend. Tickled me. Hey folks come over here, the Internet, it's open.

Sharming

Sharm

This may be an old idea but I only saw it today.
I like little socio - political nuggets like this. Easy to use, easy to get people's attention. I'm seeing corporate ethics everywhere at the minute as I've just finished some work with Fair Brand on Nike for their corporate social responsibility division. It's pretty interesting talking with companies as large as Nike about C.S.R. Confusing times.

I wonder what Easyjet thinks about this or what the visitors to Sharm would think about climate change issues ! I hardly think they'll take the Prince Charles approach!
Sharm is being turned into a Spanish resort town - I don't recommend going there...unless that's your thing.

Proud To Be...

BritishsexshopI saw this the other night walking around Soho with Fosta. We weren't looking for it... but then why do I feel I have to write that, damn, hole getting deeper.

Anyway I thought it was funny the way they emphasized the Britishness of it. People know they're in London, well most of them. Are we so repressed that our sex shops are more extreme, or is it the opposite?

Any takers? I bet Mr Frith has thoughts on this...

I Think You Left Something Behind!

Toiletsign

While freelance, I'm 'hotdesking' around wherever I can get a seat and WiFi. I've been in a graphic design Studio in Shoreditch for a few days and saw this in the toilet they share with a few other studios.
Classic.
I love the style of notes left for others to see. I don't think I needed to show you what they were complaining about!

Robbing An Idea

KazmattazThese guys are not the first to do this, but I do like it.
The concept of taking a 'thing' which people are familiar with in terms of location, colour and design and subverting it to your own ends is nearly always entertaining and thought provoking.

I imagine that if they had used the yellow with a blue band design used by the Police,  they would have gotten into trouble.

Kazmattazz is a pretty good trainer shop too.

I've Seen The Future And It Will Be

Palm1

Palm2 In Brighton recently I saw some great Palmistry signs. I like the way you can't see the palm creases the arrows point to. They were drawn on in pencil.
Also, Professor Mirza is a great name, straight out of a Tintin book.
I liked the drawings for each start sign on the sign to the left so I created a Flickr set for them.

Not Your Ordinary Halal Grocers

Shorditch1

An ordinary halal grocer? Take a closer look at the sign. That's not your everyday mistake, thats' a big one. I just love the recovery.

Thanks Luke.

No Hanging Out...Man

Hangingout

Another post about the Soho streets. I saw this outside a sex shop earlier. I thought in this country the term was 'no loitering'. No Hanging Out? What is this, the mall?
The only people that hang out outside sex shops are drug dealers and pimps. They're not 'hanging out', they're working. It's what they do.

Mind The Steps

Mindthesteps

And the Turner prize this year is awarded to…
I saw this today in a really bad coffee shop on Hoxton Street. Wow. Never mind watching out for the steps, what about watching out for the sign!

We Have A Video Grab Of You!

Notice2 I saw this yesterday in Sister Ray records. Sister Ray has a history with in-shop notices. This one is just great. They have such a nice ‘the customer is a dick’ viewpoint, which of course is true.

Notice

They used to have a sign in the old shop, which listed all the things they wouldn’t put up with. It included things like:
sucking through your teeth at them
scratching records you’re listening to
Bartering
Burberry.

Brilliant

The Worst Sign Ever, In The History Of Signage

Thai2

Thai The Red Lion on the corner of Hoxton Street and Hoxton Square used to have a steak restaurant, R.A.R.E., above it but now it seems to have a Thai one – with the worst sign in history.
Someone actually got paid to make this sign. I mean c’mon, honestly I think this is the worst sign I have ever seen.
