Crazy Record Sleeve no.19
By all accounts Ike Turner seems to have been 'quite an awkward fellow' as perhaps this sleeve shows! He did however make some super good records as well as some pretty sweet sleeves.

'Hey yeah, check me, the ladies love me'. Great record, great cover.
For Angus.
Charlie McMadness. Charlie McCoy has made some great records and had some very questionable record sleeves. This one is a gem.
I'm guessing he had just read Gulliver's Travels...
Neon Park is a pretty famous artist, well he was back in the day when he created work for all the Little Feat albums (except the first one I think). He also did album artwork for Frank Zappa, Dr John, The Beach Boys and several other stars of the day.
The sad part of the story is that he developed ALS (a degenerative disease) which caused his body to slowly cease to function. When he could no longer hold a pen or a brush and continued to write poetry on the computer typing with just one finger. He died in 1993.
At least some of his insane paintings remain in the form of some crazy record sleeves for us to enjoy.
Molly Hatchet are a pretty damn good southern rock band, which fans of the genre will already know. Their record sleeves are about the best in the business. This, as I'm sure you'll agree is pretty special.
I expect I'll throw a few more of their covers into Crazy Record Sleeves over time.
Knocking Kenny Loggins is like knocking life. He was part of the solid gold yacht rock group, Loggins and Messina, he co-wrote What A Fool Believes and wrote, Footloose, I'm Alright and Danger Zone. He's great but some, well ok, most of his albums covers are astonishingly bad. Case in Point.
William Bell is a great Soul Singer, I think that's not really debated but sheesh what's this cover all about. Almost new levels of badness.
It's been a while since I posted one of these. And this one is a pretty good one. Curtis, what pray tell, were you thinking? Oh yes of course it was painted by your cousin wasn't it!
Amazing.
Despite what you might think this album does have one killer track: Dirty Laundry; A soul-country gem. I may put it on a mix soon.
Black sheep of the family eh? Animals on record covers make me happy, doesn't take much does it! This Funkadelic compilation album came out in 1975. It has all the great early 70s work before they went all 'one nation under a groove', which I thought was a bit poop. Well, it is compared to tracks like Can You Get to That.
Ray Charles is obviously fantastic. His early R&B / country crossover work arguably shifted opinions of what what kinds of music people from different walks of life could listen to and enjoy. This album possibly isn't quite as good as the earlier ones but does have my current favourite Ray track; A Tiger By The Tale.
The cover though, is certainly his best ever!
Molly Hatchet are a country rock band from Florida and they wail...dude. Virtually all of their album covers look like this. I think continuity is very pleasing in a series of things like album releases. I do wonder what they were thinking though with these really nuts fantasy images. All kinds of crazy if you ask me.
Another cover from Swamp Dogg, he produces such reliably bad / good record sleeves. 'Hey boys, on this cover I'm gonna be riding on a rat', Yeah ok Jerry'.
It's a great southern soul album by the way and up there with my favourite covers too.
