The Prestige Review

1159624I saw the The Prestige last night, the new film by Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, Momento etc) about two rival illusionists at the end of the 19th century. The film features quite an intriguing cast of Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Scarlett Johansson. It's pretty good, maintaining a dark and quite gritty old London style throughout. Without spoiling too much it’s a tale of ethics and morals that twists and turns ignoring the obvious angles of good and evil. The performances are good but not outstanding, which is a shame. It’s hard to put your finger on it but something doesn’t quite ring true. David Bowie makes an amusing appearance too. Except he somehow ends up looking like a woman in drag (with a moustache).
